How to pick the perfect sized rug for your dining room! Here are some tips and tricks for choosing the right size rug for your space.

A rug in the dining room can add colour and life into your space, but how big should the rug be? Consider the shape and size of both your dining room and table before choosing the style or colour. Having a rug that is too small can cause problems when pulling the chair in and out, while having a rug with high pile can catch every last crumb from the table. Your dining room is a place where you gather with family and friends so choosing the right size and style rug for the space is important.

Guide for rectangle tables

Use a rug that is at least 2' larger then the table on all sides to ensure the chairs stay on when pulled out.

8' x 10' would be the common size for a typical table with 6 chairs depending on the size of your table and chairs.

Once you've decided on a rug size, mark out the area in your dining room with painters tape to see the footprint in your room.

Guide for round tables

Don't use a rug that is mall then the overall footprint of your table and chairs.

8' x 8' round would be the common size for a typical round table with 4 chairs depending on the size of your table and chairs.

Avoid light hues when choosing a rug for your dining space as they will show dirty and spots sooner than deep, richer colours.

Make sure the rug is large enough for a chair to be able to rest on it when it is pulled out. Choose a rug that is thin for easier cleanup. Be sure to measure your room and furniture to find a rug size that will work best for you.
